Mulch & New Zealand Natives
Mulch
We have bagged mulch available for your garden. April through to September are the best planting months as the damper soil conditions allow new plants to establish their root systems before the drier summer months that follow.
NZ Native Plants
We have a seasonal range of well-priced New Zealand native plants that will bring beauty and bird life to your garden. They will establish quickly once put in the ground and grow with vigour.
They include puriri, karaka, hebes, kahikatea, kohekohe, lacebark, taupata, taraire, kohuhu, rangiora, nikau palms, mapau, putaputaweta and rare Three Kings vine, tecomanthe speciosa. They have mostly been grown from seed sourced locally.
Our native plant enthusiast, Rob, is always happy to talk about native plants, especially what conditions each one prefers and how big they will ultimately be. In that way, mistakes and lost growing time can be avoided. The best time to find Rob at the garden is on Wednesday mornings but it's recommended that you phone the office on (09) 827 7045 to arrange a time and, if you can, indicate the plants you are interested in. That way we can make sure they will be on-site when you visit.
